Blog EntryOn a Mission to lose 25 good ones!!!Aug 19, '07 10:03 AM
for everyone

I went to the gym last weekend and I tipped the scales at a whopping 242 pounds.  That I is the heaviest I have ever been.  All my life I have been active, but this past year has been pretty rough.  I hardly have time to go to the gym, and I just eat like crazy.  Well I made a commitment to start working out again and try and get in decent shape.

So I changed my diet...actually never had one to start, but I trying to go on this no carbs diet.  To stop cold turkey on carbs is really tough.  I have a friend who is a chiropractor and he is fully convinced that carbs are the worst thing for your body.  He says if you eliminate carbs then not only will you lose a lot of fat, but you will have a lot more energy.  He says the best source of energy comes from animal fat, so I can eat as much bacon as I want:)

Well this past week, I haven't eaten any rice, well a little at the Kris's wedding. But I have couldn't stop eating all carbs.  So I have replaced it with bread.  Still not good.  But this week I am going to try and eliminate bread as well.  But even with bread I have lost about 3  pounds and I know I have lost at least an inch on my waist.

I have several friends who have been on this diet and they lost so much weight and they say they feel so much better.  So I guess I will have to see what happens. Pray for a mataba brotha, I need it.  Because me and Food get along real well:)

Brown and red rice is healthier than bacon ;p

Check out its nutrition first before you conclude what to do, Pastor... Better to stuff yourself with red and brown organic rice than other junk... Doctors recommend red and brown rice.. Nothing's wrong with it.. =)

Just my Opinion, for what it's worth:

I don't think all carbs are bad, and I don't think the Atkins diet is the (long term) solution. I know alot of people that have done this diet and IT WORKS ... for a while, until you resume eating like normal. Also eating all the animal fat (ie. bacon) may taste good, but watch that cholesterol. Simple sugars and white starches are bad. I think complex carbs are good IN MODERATION.

Complex carbs like Brown rice, potatoes (especially sweet potatoes), Whole grains, vegetables, oatmeal and some fruits. If you totally cut carbs I can assure you that you will not have the same energy levels, because Complex Carobohydrates refill your glygogen stores (the energy warehouse of your body). Fruits and Vegetable are also full of Nutrients, vitamens, enzymes and minerals we need. I would avoid simple (white) sugars, white rice, sodas, sweets, twinkies, etc.

What I do is eat 40% of Calaries comsumed from protien, 30% from Fat, 30% from Carbs. Drink lots of water.

I think cutting carbs is good to do for a short period of time, like a month, tops (that's what I did in my final cutting stage before a bodybuilding competition), but not as a lifestyle.

Thanks bro,
Yeah I just need to build some momentum so I was just thinking about doing this for maybe the next few weeks. A month tops. My friend used to work for the Kansas City Chiefs and is totally ripped up and supposibly was an apprentice of this doctor from Europe or something and said that people have it their concept all wrong. When I talked to this guy I was like, yeah right there is no way that bacon or is better than wheat bread or some light carbs. He said the big 3 are rice, breads, and potatos. I have a couple of my friends who play in the basketball as a profession who has done this and has lost crazy fat and said that his energy level has never been the same. But yeah I am not trying to be MR. Universe, so I am not trippin that much. But I really do appreciate all your advice and help bro. It really helps. cya brotha, aren't you in South America some where, hope to get there someday:)

Bro, Seriously I that would be great. You are HILARIOUS "NO RICE"!!! I am going to try it and see how long I last. But yeah keep me posted with what you are doing, I need all the accountbality I can get. I am going to try to go all out, but I don't want to get to consumed with all of it. I know when I say I am 242 pounds that may seem like a whole lot of weight for someone who is only 5'11. But you know about us with the "big bones." I haven't been been under 200 pounds since my junior year in high school. But now I am not playing ball anymore and I am not nearly as active, I want to try and stay between 210-220. Holla at your BOI. hope to see you soon bro

Brah!! I had a chat to Pstr Joey when I was there in May over breakfast, and he encouraged me (more like laid the SMACKDOWN) with how he is doing Body for Life... Have you read the book? Bro, I've lost almost 10kgs (22lbs) since starting it 11 weeks ago... though it is a 12 week program (and I've given myself some leeway coz we just had baby, and it's my birthday this week) I'm gonna keep rockin it, coz it's become a lifestyle now...

I'm feelin ya dawg with the whole BIG BONE thang... you know how Samoans do...Thick like Robin! haha!

242? You trying to pass Khalid el-Amin as the fattest point guard in b-ball history? Better be hitting that stair master on a daily basis. (Just kidding)

Hey, in case you didn't catch it, I left you a comment a while back on a previously-posted blog entry. Lindz and I are still in Lincoln. We had a baby boy about a month ago (Caleb Dale). Lindz, Caleb, Cameron and I are all doing great.

I was surprised to learn you had become a pastor. That is great. The "Tender Juicy Hot Dogs" or whatever squad you used to ball for, had to have been disappointed to learn of your career change.

Anyway, I just joined the prayer partner fellowship group at our church and am enjoying it very much. I have also been trying to read through the Bible on a consistent basis for the first time ever. You know, it's a pretty good book.

Would love to chat sometime. Holla at a light-skinned brutha.

Later,
